Insights & Ideas for Online Teaching
For the Latest in Education Technology: "School of Thought"
Sophia is pleased to announce the launch of our newly improved teacher community blog, School of Thought! This is an exciting resource for you to help answer your questions or add your point of view to a collaborative environment for innovative teachers across the world. You’ll find posts by teachers from across the nation covering the latest topics in educational technology. Look here to find ideas about classroom management, writing grants or simple tips on flipping your classroom. There’s no better source than your peers when looking for answers to your questions.
As we get started, I will be your virtual guide. My name is Carolyn Fruin, a 25 year science teacher from Minnesota. I began my career teaching math in Utah and spent the last 20 years teaching chemistry of all levels in a suburb of Minneapolis. I spend my summers delivering professional development to new teachers as well as facilitate Advanced Placement workshops in chemistry for the College Board. One of more recent adventures was appearing on the Daily Circuit with Kerri Miller on Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) discussing what I wish I would have liked to have known when I first started teaching. After spending the last couple of years working to add new technologies into my classroom and loving the tools, I decided to take a leave and work at Sophia as an educator services coordinator. This brings me back to our team’s latest endeavor, Sophia’s teacher resource page.
I’m excited to be able to collaborate with colleagues from across the world sharing ideas, questions and tips about anything from new online technologies for improving student engagement to learning how to make a simple screencasts. I think the most valuable part of any blog is the virtual friends we make as conversations take place.
Here at Sophia, we’ve been working hard all summer to update our great features. We’ve made things cleaner and simpler to help save you time as you start the new school year. I’d like to invite you to take a virtual tour by watching the introductory tutorial, Navigating Sophia. Also, don’t forget to join our teacher group with helpful playlists about using Sophia’s tools and features. Simply enter da8200 into the group code and start finding new friends!
Our team is excited to hear from you so please keep your feedback and suggestions coming!
