Artificial Selection

Author: Nathan Lampson

Artificial selection is when organisms are selected to reproduce by humans.  Rather than organisms interacting naturally, they are made to reproduce in order to combine their genetic traits.  Humans have been practicing artificial selection for thousands of years.  One example of artificial selection by humans is dog breeding.

Humans bred dogs with one another in order to promote certain characteristics.  Over time, humans have artificially produced a vast number of different dog breeds.
