Coniferous Forests

Author: Nathan Lampson

Coniferous forests are characterized by trees that have leaves shaped like needles to prevent water loss.  Winters in the coniferous forest are cold and often have deep snow, while summers are rainy.  Some of the tree species found in the coniferous forest are hemlock, spruce, and fir.

The animals of the coniferous forest eat seeds in order to aid in the reproduction of coniferous trees.  Small mammals and insects transport seeds to new locations.  Bigger mammals like bears, wolves, and moose are adapted to the cold weather and rainy summers of the coniferous forest.
