JetBlue Teams With Sophia for JetBlue Scholars - an Innovative Program to Help Employees Complete Their College Degrees
MINNEAPOLIS (April 20, 2016) Sophia is pleased to announce a new partnership with JetBlue, an award-winning airline lauded for outstanding service both in the air and on the ground. Sophia is providing courses for JetBlue Scholars, an innovative program that offers JetBlue crewmembers an opportunity to earn a college degree.
Seeking to meet the needs of working adults who want an affordable, flexible way to complete a degree, the program provides alternative college credit options that allows crewmembers to take online courses and also earn credit for past military, police or fire training as well as Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications and licenses, or for other experience or past college level learning.
Sophia is one of three non-traditional learning platforms chosen to provide courses for the JetBlue Scholars Program. Sophia’s ACE Credit Recommended courses offer online videos lectures and personalized learning support that allows students to learn at their own pace, from any device, at any time. Courses are designed to be completed in 60 days or less. After a crewmember completes a course, JetBlue facilitates the transfer of college credits to Thomas Edison State University, to be applied toward a bachelor’s degree in aviation, liberal studies, information technology or business.
“Our JetBlue Scholars college assistance program is inspiring crewmembers who have dreamed of earning a college degree but struggle with the high cost and challenge of balancing full-time work and other commitments. Partners such as Sophia.org are key to our low-cost model. Courses are fast-paced, with several video lectures to choose from for each module, which keeps our crewmembers engaged while they learn at their own pace and schedule,” said Bonny Simi, head of JetBlue Scholars.
JetBlue Scholars was designed in response to employee needs, interests and career progression goals. Not only is this program an innovative retention vehicle, it also facilitates internal advancement. By accelerating the higher education process, eliminating complexity and reducing costs, Sophia and JetBlue are helping to dramatically increase the percentage of Americans who have access to post-secondary degrees.
