Middle School: Engineering Design
Engineering design is an essential accompaniment to other scientific practices and content. Engineering design fosters problem-solving skills and empowers students to make better decisions as employees, consumers and citizens in today’s society.
Middle school engineering design focuses on the fundamentals of engineering design and connections between engineering, technology, science and society. Students will gain a deeper insight into local, national and global issues by examining how science and engineering work together.
By the end of middle school, students will be able to use systematic methods to compare different solutions to see which best meet criteria and constraints. In addition, they will be able to test and revise solutions a number of times in order to arrive at an optimal design.
