It's hard.

Tutorials did not line up with material I had to use Khan Math and other sources to learn. Test person was 45 minutes late on letting me take my exam.
Sophia replied on June 30, 2017

Colleen - Congratulations on completing the course and earning the college credits! Our proctoring services strives for on-time service, unfortunately that did not occur for your appointment and we regret that. Our Learning Coach staff is here to help anytime our students need assistance with the content or course resources. Again, congratulations on your successful course completion!

Fairly easy to complete. I come from taking Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2/Trig Honors classes. Most questions are quite similar to the examples, so I studied those quite thoroughly.
by Katelin D. on June 27, 2017
By far the worst course I have taken. The tutorials were less than helpful in regards to the actual questions on the tests, very vague in explaining how to apply formulas or how to set the equations up to begin with. Examples given did not relate to what was needed. Extremely time consuming trying to grasp the concepts and although I passed I feel like this course did not help me. Online tutors were of no use either. Very unhappy with this course.
Sophia replied on June 28, 2017

Hi Katelin, We appreciate your feedback and honest review of the course. College Algebra can be a rigorous and challenging subject. Between the course tutorials (instructor-presented and written options), our Learning Coaches and the availability of 24x7 on demand tutoring, we strive to help students learn the concepts, pass the course and earn the valuable college credits. We hope you have a better experience in your next Sophia course. Thank you.

Overall, this course was good and I was able to pass it. There were several times during Units 3 - 5 where I felt that the videos and text lesson did not adequately prepare me for challenge and test questions. This resulted in my having to seek alternate sources of information on KhanAcademy.com and hire a local math tutor that I could work with in person, one-on-one. My recommendation is that the videos and the lesson text be updated with additional examples for the more difficult test and challenge questions. I feel this will better help prepare learners for the Milestone tests.
Sophia replied on June 19, 2017

Alan - congratulations on your recent course completion! Additional support in this course is available directly from the Sophia Learning Coaches, through personalized tutoring. There is also 24x7 "on demand" online tutoring available for this College Algebra course. We hope to see you in a future Sophia course with us. Thank you!

  • Q: Does Sophia accept third-party payment for tuition, such as financial aid or military benefits?
A: Sophia courses are not eligible for most third party payment methods, and must be paid for by credit or debit card. Tuition is due at the time of course registration. Sophia offers both full and partial payment plans as part of the registration process.
  • Q: When do the courses start and how long do I have to complete a course?
A: You choose your own start date and have 60 days to complete each course. However, because the courses are self-paced, you can complete them in fewer than 60 days.
  • Q: Where do I get the textbooks for my course?
A: You do not need any textbooks for Sophia courses. All material is taught by video and text-based tutorials that are in the course room, and are included in the cost.
  • Q: How am I graded in the course?
A: Your overall score is derived from how you do on two types of assessments: Challenges, which are formative assessments, and Milestones, which are summative assessments. Sophia’s English Composition I, Foundations of English Composition, and Public Speaking courses also include written assignments, called Touchstones, that also contribute to your overall score.
  • Q: How do I know which courses I should take?
A: Consult with your academic adviser at your university to determine specifically which Sophia courses could fit into your program. You can download the course syllabus directly from our site to share with your school advisor.
