This rocked

It was a great learning experience. I just did not like how long it took to start the actual testing. I had gotten a baby sitter for the hour and it took more like 2 hours. One hour was just setting up and looking around in my room. I mean I don’t think it’s appropriate to let someone in a web cam look around your room and things that is not cool. It’s an awesome thing what Sophia is doing to help us with cheaper courses but there has got to be a better way than showing some one on a web cam your area in your home. Then the guy whom I had seemed frustrated because I was not understanding him I guess . But besides that I like Sophia

Very good resources.

The course is very thorough and includes detailed information on all the topics. However, most of the text comes from excerpts of video transcriptions with many typos. As an English/Language Arts teacher, I found the grammar errors and frequent typos really distracting. Other than that, the course is pretty straightforward and can be accomplished in a couple of weeks.

this was quite informative and a great learning experience

The course was good, well thought out and informative. However, ProctorU was not the best experience. I spend 40+ minutes getting verified and started, this was very stressful. The last proctored verification test I took for my Art History class was less tricky to get started and I was able to get started within a few minutes.

I'm a visual learner. This was one of the reasons why I chose an online course; I always wondered why I should pay a ton of money to take an in-person class when I learn best by reading from the text. Unfortunately, most of the tutorials for the course were videos that didn't seem to be particularly well done. One of the instructors had her videos transcribed, but they were laden with mistakes and verbal tics, for example, every sentence for two paragraphs in a row starting with "so," filled with "okay," or "I'm sorry, I meant this, not that." This is confusing to reader and viewer, and considering that the videos and their transcriptions are the only source of information for the site, they should have some more time put in to make them appropriate and streamlined. Overall the course was alright, I liked going at my own pace and how quickly the verification milestone was able to be completed. The whole process could just be a bit more streamlined to really make it exceptional.

This course was interesting. But much more detailed than I anticipated. To be a Gen Ed course, I thought it would be more high level. This seemed to be more geared toward someone actually going into the medical or science field. I spent much more time and a lot more note-taking on this course than any of the other Sophia courses I've taken.

  • Q: Does Sophia accept third-party payment for tuition, such as financial aid or military benefits?
A: Sophia courses are not eligible for most third party payment methods, and must be paid for by credit or debit card. Tuition is due at the time of course registration. Sophia offers both full and partial payment plans as part of the registration process.
  • Q: When do the courses start and how long do I have to complete a course?
A: You choose your own start date and have 60 days to complete each course. However, because the courses are self-paced, you can complete them in fewer than 60 days.
  • Q: Where do I get the textbooks for my course?
A: You do not need any textbooks for Sophia courses. All material is taught by video and text-based tutorials that are in the course room, and are included in the cost.
  • Q: How am I graded in the course?
A: Your overall score is derived from how you do on two types of assessments: Challenges, which are formative assessments, and Milestones, which are summative assessments. Sophia’s English Composition I, Foundations of English Composition, and Public Speaking courses also include written assignments, called Touchstones, that also contribute to your overall score.
  • Q: How do I know which courses I should take?
A: Consult with your academic adviser at your university to determine specifically which Sophia courses could fit into your program. You can download the course syllabus directly from our site to share with your school advisor.
