It was a little bit of a challenge at time but a good course. It probably is a challenge since I am doing my regular college classes plus full time job. I highly recommend this course.

Great course. I really liked how on each module there was a written tutorial. I find that using the written tutorial to be easier to navigate through the course and it saves time compared to viewing each and every single video. A video can range from 3-8 min, per video, at 7-9 questions per challenge you are looking at around 40 min in just videos. I was able to knock out one of the challenges in this course in 3 min by using the written tutorial. I finished this course in a day, 4.5 quarter credits in a day is quicker and cheaper than going to a classroom for a couple of months.

I liked this course compared to the statics course. For the most part each question took you directly to the tutorial you needed for that particular question. It is very frustrating to have to watch 4 or 5 tutorials before you find the one you need. After the unit is complete, I do go back to watch all of the tutorials I will need for the milestone. I just don't want to have to do that to answer the questions in the unit.

Thanks Erica. We think you will continue to enjoy the improvements we are making to our courses, including spotlighting the tutorial needed for each Challenge question. As always, you'll have multiple instructors/formats to choose from for that one tutorial. That's Sophia's Many Ways to Learn model working for you!

This was such a nice way to complete credits and save a lot of money. I wish I would have figured out to take notes before my milestones. I believe I would have received a much higher grade. Now that I am familiar with how Sophia works I will do better with my next course.

Zach Lamb was the best instructor I've had yet in the Sophia courses! Thank you Zach for making this interesting and showing your passion for Sociology.

  • Q: Does Sophia accept third-party payment for tuition, such as financial aid or military benefits?
A: Sophia courses are not eligible for most third party payment methods, and must be paid for by credit or debit card. Tuition is due at the time of course registration. Sophia offers both full and partial payment plans as part of the registration process.
  • Q: When do the courses start and how long do I have to complete a course?
A: You choose your own start date and have 60 days to complete each course. However, because the courses are self-paced, you can complete them in fewer than 60 days.
  • Q: Where do I get the textbooks for my course?
A: You do not need any textbooks for Sophia courses. All material is taught by video and text-based tutorials that are in the course room, and are included in the cost.
  • Q: How am I graded in the course?
A: Your overall score is derived from how you do on two types of assessments: Challenges, which are formative assessments, and Milestones, which are summative assessments. (Sophia’s English Composition I course also includes written assignments, called Touchstones, that also contribute to your overall score.)

Sophia courses are graded on a pass/fail basis. No letter grade is issued for a completed course.
  • Q: How do I know which courses I should take?
A: Consult with your academic adviser at your university to determine specifically which Sophia courses could fit into your program. You can download the course syllabus directly from our site to share with your school advisor.
