ELA Expository Writing (paragraph and summary)

Common Core State Standard(s): 8.W.2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content. 8.RIT.2: Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including its relationship to supporting ideas; provide an objective summary of the text. In this unit you will be learning about the components of a paragraph, once you learn this it will be easy to expand out into a full essay. You will be learning about a couple of different types of topic sentences, we will expand on this concept throughout the year as well. You will learn about how to build body sentences, and how to wrap it up in a conclusion. It is important to note however, that you do not need a concluding sentence on a summary paragraph. You will also learn the basics of summary in order to build the perfect summary. You will be doing a lot of summaries in my class, as well as in other subjects throughout the year so pay close attention it will help you in multiple areas!
