This unit focuses on the topics of biological control and homeostasis. The concept of a control system as well as the structure and function of the nervous, endocrine and immune systems are examined here. A focus of the unit is one of life management...particularly that of stress. You should, by the end of this unit, realize that the body must maintain itself within a very narrow range of physiological conditions. You should also become aware of the impact of your personal habits, in terms of fitness, health and stress management, on the ability of your body to maintain its necessary homeostasis. A main focus is communications. You will develop your listening, note-making and applied research skills; cooperative and personal research skills will be necessary for effective learning in the activity centres.
