June Teacher of the Month: Holly Fairbrother

Ms. Fairbrother (@MrsHollyEnglish) was born, raised and educated in the UK. Her dream from birth was to be a teacher - even setting up her own 'school' for the local neighborhood kids during the school holidays! Holly received a joint BA (Hons) degree in English & Gender Studies from The University of Hull and spent 4 years in the 'real world'. She returned to The University of Hull to work for the Pro-Vice Chancellor and completed a PG Dip in Management. She also completed her PGCE in Secondary English with Media Studies at Manchester Metropolitan University. After teaching in the UK for 6 years, Holly spent time in Qatar and Malaysia and finally found a home in Singapore. She is an advocate of personalized learning and has developed a strong ethos of innovative learning practices that foster independence and place responsibility in the hands of learners. As a life-long learner, Holly recently commenced her MEd at UMUC and became certified in several educational technology programs. She isan examiner for CIE and IBO, and has been responsible for DP extended essay coordination and curriculum development. She has presented at several conferences, her most recent being on how to take English teaching 'above the line' at the Google Summit KL (2013). In August, she will be relocating to UAE to help set up the English department in a BYOD International School in Dubai. Click here to access her profile and follow her now.
