Time spent on site

When I check the 'time on site' data for my students it seems to be calculating it incorrectly. I tested it out by entering under a student name into a site I manage. I watched a video tutorial for 5 minutes and took the accompanying quiz. I then logged out as a student and logged back in as a teacher to see the data. It reported that I spent only 10 seconds on the site. Am I interpreting the data wrong?

Hi All,

Sounds familiar I have always seemed to have the same problem. On a different note how do you find out about how the badges are earned on Sophia?

I'm having the same problem. Your suggestions are not changing my time on site for my group participants.

Hi John, my name is Mattie and I am the Digital Marketing Associate with Sophia. Hopefully I can answer your question! I talked to our IT department and they said that one of two things could be going on...

1.) The browser window needs to be "focused" for the time tracker to record the activity. It's possible for the tab to be "open" in the background without the tab being in focus. If that case, the activity doesn't get counted.

2.) If that's not the case -- there's a variety of other technical issues that might cause something like this. When the page is open it pings our site every few seconds using background javascript. If that script is being blocked by the antivirus software or by the users security settings -- it can also interfere with the time tracker.

My advice is to make sure that you only have one browser open. If this is not possible, then make sure the browser in which students are actively working on is the browser "activated". If you have further questions please feel free to email me at mattie.eslinger@sophia.org and I can help walk you through with some screenshots that might help clear up any confusion!
