Hi! Been through all the tutorials and am just starting out, but I don't recall information about youtube video uploads to Sophia as being a workaround a youtube block. If I upload them from youtube using the url, are they accessible through a block because they are now uploaded to sophia? I can't test that here at home. There are so many TED-ed videos I would absolutely be thrilled to use, especially with their flipped lessons, but as of right now those, and a whole plethora of other great resources, are completely unavailable to use in my current classroom. I could convert them, but with what? (no more zamzar) and what about file size being a problem? Thanks for any help! Really making some incredible headway and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this website, especially the capability to work with and embed into another LMS (like the one we use at our school that is the antithesis of a user-friendly LMS). I've had a personal Web site of my own for almost a decade that is really great, but sophia can do so much more! As a hint of the fun I'm having....It's 1 am and I want to keep working! ;)

Clip Convertor works great too and it has a Chrome plug in.

Glad you love the site, I fell head over heels myself when I discovered Sophia.

Here's my work-around, Upper right hand corner gives you a button to slide onto your bookmarks bar. Once you find the video you like, simply click keepvid and there it is on your desktop. Now, just go back to the tutorial and click insert video and instead of a url, you'll choose the file. No more blockage! (and no disappearing links)

If you're interested in sharing any of your work with the community, let us know (email customer service) and we'll get back to you about featuring your classroom.

Thanks again for letting us know what you think!

Oh. I thought the "slide it to the bookmarks bar" was AFTER a download! I didn't even see that little box! So easy! Thanks!

Ugh! I hate when that happens. I just do the drag from the button into my bookmark bar and it sits there all the time. When I want a video, I just click it. I don't believe I ever "downloaded" anything else. I also typically choose the mp4 file when given options - half of the others I don't even understand the file code! :-)

Tried keepvid and made a crucial error in my excitement of not unclicking one of their boxes that set off a download of bundles as part of the keepvid download, which was, etc. It hijacked my search bar, homepages, etc and I had to reset firefox, so word of warning. That'll teach me! I"ll have to try it again. Thanks!

Hi Tammy -

My name is Chris, I'm an employee at SOPHIA. We're glad to hear you're enjoying the site! Hopefully I can help answer your questions...

When you embed a YouTube video on SOPHIA (using YouTube's embed code), the video file will be played from YouTube's server. If your school is blocking YouTube, you'll probably have trouble playing those videos from your school network.

If you have a video file on your computer, you can always upload it to SOPHIA with a video section. We support a wide variety of formats and host the files on our servers. We currently have a limit of 2 gigabytes of storage, which should be plenty for most videos.

I hope you enjoy the site! Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

Ok, I a confused. I just signed up for Sophia for my students. I set up my groups and my playlist. However you tube is blocked at my school. What do I need to do so that my students can watch the assigned videos and take the quizzes. Thanks
