Let's gather some background information

"Assessment is today's means of modifying tomorrow's instruction."
Carole Tomlinson

Pre-assessment plays a critical role in your ability to differentiate instruction. You administer pre-assessments before you begin the instruction in a curricular unit in order to gain an understanding of what your students know, understand, and are able to do. Without pre-assessment, you do not know the preparedness of your students for new learning, the specific learning differences amongst your students, or where to begin devising new curriculum goals (Heacox, 2009).

Please complete the quick pre-assessment below.

Pre-Instructional Assessment

What is Socrative and how can it help me in my classroom?

Socrative (2014) is a web-based smart student response system in which teachers develop assessments, games, exit tickets, quizzes, etc. and students use their own devices to interact with teacher-created content.  In this module, we will create accounts on Socrative and learn how Exit Tickets can provide instant assessment for educators.  Please view the video below to learn what Socrative is all about!

Who is ready to dive in and get started with Socrative?

Now that we know what Socrative is all about, let's jump right in and create our accounts. This process is easy to do and will only take a few minutes.  The process is even easier for your students!  We will get to that in a minute!

Creating Teacher Accounts in Socrative

Wasn't that easy?

Now that you have your teacher account created, let's discuss Exit Tickets.  Exit Tickets are a great way for you to wrap up your lessons and allow your students to reflect on what they learned.  The next tutorial shows you how to create Exit Tickets and how your students can respond.

How can I use Exit Tickets in my classroom?

Let's see how you did!

You did it!

Great job completing this module.  Hopefully, you can see the benefits of Socrative in your BYOD classroom.  If you have any questions, please use the Question area below.  Thank you for being great learners!
