Here you can see for yourself the difference between an element and a compound. The sulfur powder and iron filings are each separate elements. The beginning of the video shows the instructor mixing them together making a gray substance. THAT is a mixture. At the end of video the instructor heats the mixture which chemically bonds the 2 elements making a whole new substance called Iron Sulfate. THAT is a compound!
