Learning Objectives

  1. Students will understand the courses that must be completed to be admitted into four-year public universities in California such as California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC).
  2. Students will understand the importance of A-G requirements.
  3. Students will be able to create a 4-year high school plan that will include A-G courses. 

Before You Start

Read over the instructions below.

Make sure you complete each task to receive full credit on this assignment.

Instructions

In order to understand the learning objectives listed above, please complete the following tasks.

  1. Watch the A-G Requirements video to briefly learn about the courses needed to be admitted to a four-year public university in California. 
  2. Go through the A-G PowerPoint presentation and take notes on the important information that will be provided in the presentation. 
  3.  Explore the courses that are A-G approved at our school by using the A-G Courses offered at our High School link. 
  4. Print, fill out and complete the My Academic Planner worksheet.
  5. Review UC Preparation Calendar.
  6.  Learn about the choices you have for higher education.  
  7. Answer the Big question.
  8. Take the quiz on the right hand side to show how much you've learned in this tutorial.

After watching the video, go over this presentation to learn more about the A-G requirements. Take your time as you go through this presentation to fully understand the requirements need to be admitted into a 4-year public university.

This presentation will break down each section with examples of classes you can take to satisfy each A-G.

A-G Courses offered at our high school

Click on the link above and explore the different A-G Courses offered at our high school. 

In the search bar, search for our high school using our high school name or by using our College Board Code 054630.

The courses are divided by A-G.

Under Title/ Discipline you will find the course name.

Transcript abbreviations is how it will be displayed on your transcript if you decide to take the class. 

Course Details will tell you if the class is a UC Honors class, Online-Based, classroom based, half year or full year.  

On a word document, type out the courses you have already taken. What A-G category do they fall under?


High School 4-year Plan

After opening the Academic Planner, go ahead and print it out.

Read the booklet and create your 4-year plan using the courses listed in the module above.

Write down the courses you have taken and the grades you received for both semesters.

Also, make sure to list extracurricular activities and awards on your Academic Planner. 

For future grades, list down the courses you would like to take.

After you have completed this tutorial, set up an appointment with your counselor to go over your 4-year plan.
