Adding/Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators

Adding/Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators

Author: Carol Linderman

- observe two different methods to adding/subtracting fractions/mixed numbers with unlike denominators

-add and subtract fractions/mixed numbers with different denominators using one or both methods or problem solving

This video will show students 2 different methods to adding/subtracting fractions/mixed numbers with unlike denominators.  The first method involves finding the LCM, making equivalent fractions, and solving andreducing.  The second, shorter, method is

(ad) + (bc)/(bd).  The students will observe problems being solved using both methods and be able to choose the method they prefer when completing the practice problems provided at the end of the video.
