African American Art (Pre-AP)

African American Art (Pre-AP)

Author: Beth Barsness
  1. To expose students to a variety of African American Art.

  2. The students will come to understand the themes in several African American artists’ works by studying different artists’ works, listening to artists talk about their work, answering study guide questions, and participating in a class discussion.

The general goal of this lesson is to expose students to a wide range of African American Art. As a result, this lesson would build interest in African American Art and perhaps entice students to enroll in an AP Art History course. There are two additional online activities and worksheets to engage learners at different levels.

Length of time needed: 3 class periods (50 minutes each)
