Basic Math Properties

Remember these few definitions and this stuff will be alot easier!

Order of Operations: The order in which one uses when working with any linear equation. PEMDAS. The order is as follows, Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtracting. This is commonly Used with the acronym (Please, Excuse, My, Dear, Aunt, Sally).

 

Associative Property: the Associative Property is the rule that refers to grouping. For addition, the rule is "a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c

 

Distributive Property: recall that "multiplication distributes over addition". Formally, they write this property as "a(b + c) = ab + ac"

 

Commutative Property: the Commutative Property is the one that refers to moving stuff around. For addition, the rule is "a + b = b + a"
