Building and Deploying Online Tests in Blackboard Learn

Author: Jim Holton

In this session we will demonstrate and practice the steps of building tests, adding test questions, and deploying online tests within the Blackboard Learn learning management system. To get started, watch the overview video below.

Creating a Test

After creating a test in Blackboard you will need to add questions. Blackboard Learn has a number of question types that can be added. The question types available range from commonly used types such as multiple choice and true/false, to more unique types such as calculated formula, calculated numeric, and hot spot. Most of the various question types are explained in the videos below.

There are two additional question types. Either/Or questions allow test creators to choose the alternates displayed to test takers, including options for Yes/No, Agree/Disagree, Right/Wrong, and True/False. The final question type, File Response, has test takers upload a file from the local computer into Blackboard as part of the test.

Deploying Tests

Depending on the exact steps taken to create a test, most of the time you will need to deploy a test before students in a course will be able to take it.It is during the test deployment process that you will be able to set the options and restrictions students will face when taking a test. Options include date restrictions, time limits, and question presentation modes. The video below goes through the steps for deploying a test and setting the test options.
