To work an increasingly complex math word problem over a five day period so that the student starts with basic skills and moves up to higher level thinking processes by the end of the week.
I started with a problem of the week from NCTM.org -- Each bumblebee has five eyes. There are three bumblebees flying around a flower. How many bumblebee eyes are flying around the flower? I adapted the word problem using rebus pictures to make some independent reading possible for my student, a non-reading second grader. I then presented an increasingly harder version of the problem over five school days. I wanted to see if the student could move into higher level thinking skills by completing an increasingly complex problem over five days.
This slide show describes the daily progression of the lessons
