Description:

At the end of this tutorial, students will be able to understand the difference between the "natural" language used with search engines such as Google and the "controlled" language used by the Library of Congress. Students will be able to identify effective key words and LofC subject terms to use in academic databases. Students will also be able to narrow a search in these databases in order to retrieve acceptable scholarly articles that are highly relevant to their Capstone project.

The slideshow briefly defines the difference between "natural" and "controlled" language used in informal and academic searches. The screencast demonstrates how this difference functions in academic databases.
