4 States of Matter Song

Uploaded on 25 May 2011
4 States of Matter Song. Here is a video I created for a science student to help them study.I hope you enjoy.
It starts with solids
Solids, I do know why
Can't change shape no matter how you try
Definite shape and volume is locked
With particles in position

And I know
Liquids, a fluid thing
Particles slide by as a pendulum swings
Watch them in a glass always taking its shape
Volume stays the same

Gas is unreal
Moving particles
Watch them move out and in, to and fro
Trying to hold shape but can't do it no
Volume can change

Then Plasmas
The fourth state of matter, no shape, no volume, atoms brake apart
Most in the galaxy, fire, lightning, conduct electricity

The Particles of Molecules
Are in motion
Gas, Liquid, Solid, Plasma
How fast they move and attraction
Will determine
The four states of matter

Melting, solid to liquid
Absorbing energy atoms endothermic change
Freezing is the way energy removed
From liquid to solid

Vaporization
Liquid to gas happens in boiling
Second from is always evaporation
Remembering all boiling points change with
Atmospheric pressure

Condensation
Things aren't the way they were before
Changing gas to liquid atoms together more
Energy is removed slowing motion down
Exothermic change

Sublimation
Changing solid to gas molecules tightly packed
Now all spread out
How it's meant to be, added energy
Spreading like they flee, endothermic change

The Particles of Molecules
Are in motion
Gas, Liquid, Solid, Plasma
How fast they move and attraction
Will determine
The four states of matter

Energy added or removed
Atoms clump or spread apart
Changing states
That a substance may undergo

Temperature change will do
Pushing speed of particles
But with this
Changes happen when state's completed

The Particles of Molecules
Are in motion
Gas, Liquid, Solid, Plasma
How fast they move and attraction
Will determine
The four states of matter

The Phase Changes of Water Song - Mr. Edmonds

Published on 9 Sep 2012
This song is to the tune of "Hey, Soul Sister" as sung by TRAIN (composed by Pat Monahan and Amund Bjorklund) . In the song I go through the 3 phase changes of water, singing about what happens at each step. I include references to the jobs of latent heat of fusion and latent heat of vaporization and reinforce that the temperature stays the same in those phase changes but goes up when the water has completely changed into the next phase. This song should be used in conjunction with "The Heat and Temperature Song" and goes well with Lesson 7 of STC/MS "Properties of Matter". The words are found in the "docs" section under "dsecms" on Teacher Tube. or below:
The Phase Changes of Water Song
(To the Tune of "Hey Soul Sister" composed by Pat Monahan and Amund Bjorklund and sung by "Train". Lyrics composed by Doug Edmonds.)
Hey .... Hey... Hey...........
A change of phase, for water is a change in state
In the state of matter, from solid to liquid then to gas
Or the reverse!

The constant heat, will energize the particles in special ways.
When the water's solid, the temperature rises, see the diagonal line!

The particles vibrate, they vibrate in place, that's the way for all heated solids, too.
The particles vibrate, they vibrate in place, that's the way for all heated solids, too. And then ..... Hey .... Hey... Hey..........
Then the added heat, starts to melt the ice, and then you can plainly see
A horizontal line -- a phase change occurs
The solid bonds break. They break!

Until all the ice, the ice is melted, the temperature stays the same,
The latent heat of fusion, now that's what's working to ..... to change the phase, the phase!

But when all the water, the water's turned to liquid, the molecules move far apart.
The kinetic energy causes a rise in the temperature as you can see!!

(Pause and then faster) NOW THE HEAT ENERGY,
ONCE AGAIN WILL BREAK THE LIQUID BONDS THAT PARTICLES DO HAVE
SO THE PARTICLES CAN VAPORIZE!
VAPORIZE, ONE BY ONE, IT'S THE LATENT HEAT OF VAPORIZA-TION AT WORK, GON-NA BREAK THOSE BONDS!

During the phase change, the water's boiling but the temperature remains the same.
The latent heat is breaking all the bonds, but the temperature remains the same.
It won't go up again until all the liquid has vaporized and the heat remains.....
It won't go up again until all the liquid has vaporized and the heat remains.....
the heat remains.

Hey .... Hey... Hey...........
And the heat remains!
