Concerned with access to healthcare, community leaders in Ironridge ask you, as MSN-prepared nurses, to help them prioritize the health-related problems in their community and find more information on the top two issues.
This week you will need to post twice (once individually by Wednesday and at least once in your group). First, you will individually post what top two priority issues you noted in Ironridge with a short reason why for each top priority issue you identified by Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. MT.  The instructor will divide your class in half by alphabet and the number of students enrolled in your course section. Group 1 will take the issue with the highest number of posts to discuss in a group post called  Group 1 and the name of the priority issue.  Group 2 will take the issue with the second highest number of posts to discuss in your group called Group 2 and the name of the priority issue. The issues should be different from each other instead of everyone focusing on the same topic. In your group discussion of the issue, discuss what information you will need to know about the issue? What types of research would be most useful (descriptive, explanatory, predictive, prescriptive)?  What databases are the most helpful?
Each group can determine who their leader is going to be to post the PICOT question for each group. You can post to each other as a group if you wish so you can discuss strategies, et cetera.
1)  What are your two priority issues (one health and one safety) and why?
2) Which two different types of studies would you select for each issue and why?
3) Why can both quantitative and qualitative studies be descriptive?
4) Can qualitative studies answer explanatory, predictive, or prescriptive questions?
5) How do non-experimental, experimental, and quasi-experimental studies relate to the different purposes of research?
Review the differences in descriptive, explanatory, predictive, and prescriptive studies and select one of the predictive or prescriptive articles that you find. What are the independent variables (IV), dependent variables (DV), and mediating variables (MVs) that you find in the article? How do determining IVs, DVs, and MVs help you discern the theory tested in the research? In your particular article, what risk factors are identified, or what recommendations are provided?
