Formatting Short Quotes

When using short quotations use double quotation marks.  Question marks and exclamation points should appear within the quotation marks if they are a part of the quoted passage.

Formatting Long Quotes

Long Quotations (Block Quotations)
For quotations that are four or more lines of verse or prose: place quotations in a free-standing block of text and omit quotation marks. Start the quotation on a new line, with the entire quote indented one inch from the left margin; maintain double-spacing. Only indent the first line of the quotation by a half inch if you are citing multiple paragraphs.

Gertrude the Galloping Gossip

Can you help Gertrude by putting in the correct quotation marks?

Gertrude the Galloping Gossip –

Incorrect version

I’m Gertrude and I love to gossip.  Did you hear about Jack and Nelly? I passed their window this morning and I heard them talking.

He said, Nelly you spend too much money! I am going to break up with you if you keep spending like this. If you are so rich then spend your own money.

Then, Nelly said, Jack it is so over between us. We were never really together to begin with.

OMG! Can you believe it?  They were not such a great couple anyway.
