By the end of this lesson, students will be able to explain, verbally and in writing, how different genotype combinations of dominant and recessive alleles for the two parent organisms determines the phenotype of their offspring.
In the lesson tutorial, I will be explaining and showing students the difference between dominant and recessive alleles. They will be taking guided Cornell Notes while they watch the video and do a short written processing piece in the form of adding questions and a summary to their notes. They will also bring 2 questions to discuss in class the next day.
In the classroom lesson, students will work collaboratively to explore how different combinations of dominant and recessive alleles from two parent organisms determines the traits present in their offspring. Students will draw traits randomly from an envelope and record this data. They will then use their genetic data to create an image of what their offspring would look like, and write to explain why their offspring has that specific phenotype, based on the dominant and recessive allele combinations (genotypes) of it's parents.
