Explain the causes of Earth's seasons.
Earth has a spherical shape. The evidence for Earth's shape is the way objects appear on the horizon and its curved shadow during a lunar eclipse. The Earth rotates on its axis, causing day and night. Earth revolves around the sun in an elliptical orbit. Earth's rotational axis is titled at an angle of 23.5'. The tilt of Earth's axis as it moves around the Sun causes the seasons. At a solstice, the Sun is directly over the Tropic of Capricorn or the Tropic of Cancer. At an equinox the Sun is directly over the equator.
