Video Discussion

Waiting can be really hard, right?  Right now we are all waiting on this virus to go away so we can go back to normal.  Are you already sick of waiting to go play with your friends?  Are you already sick of waiting to go back to school?  I think we all are in the same boat, parents and kids.

In what ways can you relate to the Israelites waiting for Moses to come back from the mountain?  Instead of having faith in God that Moses would return they got sick of waiting and turned from God.  They built a false God to worship instead.  Are there things you are turning too instead of God (your own golden calf) during this time of waiting? Are you finding yourself lashing out at your parents in anger or are you crying more because you are missing the outside world?  Waiting can bring out anxieties and emotions that we don't usually have, which can make it harder to wait.  These are all things we can bring to God in prayer.  We can't rely on ourselves to get through this time of waiting, we have to rely on God and the peace he brings us.

Action Step:  Make a list of all the things you are frustrated or have anxiety with right now.  Look at the list with your parents and pray through it asking God for patience.

Verse Game

This is a great game teaching kids how to use the Bible and locate verses. All the verses talk about waiting for God. Discuss the verses that have a meaning for yourself or could help your kid.

How to play

Everyone grab a Bible (younger kids may need to team up with an adult)!
Write the following verses on pieces of paper and put them in a bowl.
Have everyone hold their Bibles by the spine.
Have someone draw a verse out and let everyone see it. (it might be good, especially for younger kids, to ask them is it old or new testament)
Count down from 3 (3...2...1...GO!)- once you say go everyone riffles through their Bibles to find the verse first!
First one to find it stand up and read it.
You can count points or not :)
