Elements are the basic building components that construct one’s visual design. They are tools to help the designer convey his or her idea, so you can think of them like different building blocks used to form a design.
Those elements are dot, line, form, shape, space, texture, value, and color. It's one thing to know what they are, but it's another to really understand how they function and how others will interact with them as well.
If you know what the most common elements are and understand how they are used, you will be able to create more effective pieces as a designer in visual communications.
You will also be able to understand other artists' use of these elements, and then apply those skills and techniques to your own work.
