This tutorial will focus on the following third-grade mathematics standards:
CCSS.Numbers and Operations-Fractions. 3.NF:
Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.
With a focus on the following substandard:
Express whole numbers as fractions, and recognize fractions that are equivalent to whole numbers. Examples:
Express 3 in the form 3 = 3/1; recognize that 6/1 = 6; locate 4/4 and 1 at the same point of a number line diagram
Objectives:
Students will engage with the two linked videos to assess and understand the concept of equivalent fractions and whole numbers.
Students will explore whole numbers and their equivalent fractions by participating in at least one of the three linked website games.
Students will explain whole numbers and their equivalent fractions by creating a Fipgrid.
Students will demonstrate their understanding of fractions as whole numbers by interacting with a Kahoot and Quizizz.
Students will demonstrate their knowledge of fractions as whole numbers by completing a quiz on Sophia and answering the BIG Question on a google form.
IEP/ Idea goal:
When presented with a whole number and fraction students will be able to identify whether or not they are equivalent with 90% accuracy 2 out of 3 times during practice problems.
Given a whole number (ex. 5), the student will recognize the correct equivalent fraction, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities on the final quiz.
