Food Webs

Author: Nathan Lampson

A food web is a complex web of interaction between organisms in a community.

Autotroph organisms produce energy by converting inorganic nutrients to organic nutrients.  Consumer organisms, known as heterotrophs, are unable to produce organic nutrients from inorganic nutrients and must consume other organisms.

This food web illustrates the complex interaction between several types of organisms and provides a visualization of energy flow within a community.

In this image, arrows are used to indicate the direction of the flow of energy.
