Tutorial

Procedure

Day 1:

This lesson plan will include the use of our school computer cart with 5 Dell laptops.

Five students are selected to use the five computers set up on the workstations in class. The next step has each of the students logging in to their student account to access the WiFi network for the class. The rest of the class will have the paper version of the CST review placed in front of them. They are to answer each question until I assign a new student to take the place of another student at one of the five computers.

Upon full boot up of the system, the students will open a browser and type in the following web address in the browser window:

http://www.sciencegeek.net/Biology/Millionaire2/index.html

Students will take turns being the “contestant” until one of them become a “Millionaire”. Once they both have become a “Millionaire” they are to go to the following website to do some practice questions:

https://flashcards.engrade.com/cstbiologyreview

The students are to do a minimum of 15 flashcards, 15 matching questions, and 15 multiple choice questions.

Once completed or 10 minutes prior to the bell ringing, the last students will be instructed to shut down the computer, and walk the computer back to the cart under my supervision. I will store the computers and charge them up with the power cord.

Day 2:

This lesson plan will include the use of our school computer cart with 5 Dell laptops.

I will select 10 students to work together and then the students first send one partner to the front of class to retrieve one laptop without the cord. They will take the computer to place on their table with their partner. The next step has one of the students logging in to their student account to access the WiFi network for the class.

Upon full boot up of the system, the students will open a browser and type in the following web address in the browser window:

http://www.sciencegeek.net/Biology/review/CST.htm

Students will practice taking the old CST review questions released by the Department of Education. They will obtain live scoring and results on the spot.

The rest of the students will continue to work on the paper copy of the CST review until selected to work with a partner on the computer.

Day 3:

Students will continue to work in pairs and take the CST review questions until they obtain a passing score of 80% or higher. If they do not obtain that score in 27 minutes they rotate out for another pair of students. At the end of the class students will do a print of their test results and do additional flashcards on the website. The rest of the class will continue to work on the hard copy of the CST review exam.
