Analysis of Beethoven's 3rd Symphony, 1st movement

Watch the section giving details of the first movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony. Give your opinions of the structure of each section and whether you agree or not with it. Give examples to prove or disprove the video. Make notice of the sonata form and see whether the composer strictly follows the rules.

Analysis of 2nd movement

Same as before, watch the video. Give your opinions of the structure of each section and whether you agree or not with it. Give examples to prove or disprove the video.

Analysis of 3rd movement

Same as before, listen to and analyze the 3rd movement.

Analysis of 4th movement

Finally, listen to and analyze the finale.

Compare and contrast

What were your conclusions? Was the video accurate in its assumptions? Did you disagree with anything?

Compare and contrast the 4 sections. How are they similar? How do they differ? Write your thoughts to be turned in next class period.

Final thoughts

As you leave, think about how the different sections of music are similar or different in the music that you listen to. Find a song or piece of music of your choice, and make mental notes of the song structure. Be prepared to share with the class next time we meet.
