Golgi Body

Author: Amanda Soderlind

The golgi body is sometimes also called the golgi apparatus. The function of the golgi body is to receive materials from the endoplasmic reticulum and then send them out to other parts of the cell. Generally the golgi body is packaging proteins and carbohydrates for transport throughout the cell. Once the contents are packaged up they are sent throughout the cell in little sacs called vesicles. The golgi body also sometimes releases materials to the outside of the cell. The golgi body can be found near the nucleus of the cell. The golgi body is a relatively flat sac-like organelle surrounded by a thin membrane.
