There are 8 carpal bones that are arranged in two rows, proximal and distal. The proximal row articulates with the forear and forms the wrist joint. The metacarpals articulate with the distal row of carpal bones.
The metacarpals articulate with the distal row of carpal bones and form the palm of the hand. Then on the distal aspects of the metacarpals the phalanges begin.
