How Seasons Work

How Seasons Work

Author: Lori Green

Students will learn what causes seasons on earth and the difference between rotation and revolution.

Because the earth spins (rotates) on a tilted axis as it revolves (moves around) the sun, the earth experiences different seasons in different hemispheres.

When a hemisphere is tilted toward the sun, that hemisphere experiences summer because it is receiving the most direct sunlight. When it is tilted away, that hemisphere experiences winter because it is receiving less direct sunlight.
