How to Make the Most of Your Study Abroad Program

How to Make the Most of Your Study Abroad Program

Author: hoyin hoyin

So, you did all that work to find the right program, apply, and get funding, how do you make the most out of your study abroad program? Most likely you will have a pre-departure course before your program. You will be provided background on the country you will be attending and their culture and language. However, here are some tips that I think you should follow in order to ensure that you have the best possible experience and get the most out of it:

Do some of your own personal language studies before going

I knew some Spanish before going to Nicaragua from my three years of study in high school. Spanish is widely spoken in Brazil, but the main language is Portuguese. So, I did not use a language speaking program before Nicaragua, but I am currently using both a Spanish speaking program and Portuguese speaking program before going to Brazil.
There are also a lot of students that come to the USA from non-English speaking countries. It’s not that easy to learn a new language and keep up with your studies, especially when you barely understand what’s going on. Sometimes I used reviews of the best research paper writing services in order to find a website that can write me a paper or essay. That’s a helpful tool for students who study abroad.

Write a blog about your experience

Set up a blog to write about your journeys and reflections before, during, and after the program. Also, bring a journal in-country.
You will love to have these memories available to you for the rest of your life. Also, having a personal blog or, at the very minimum, a travel blog will make you very appealing for other applications, jobs, etc.

Seek support

Get to know your peers and instructor also going on the program.
Most likely you will do that in your pre-departure course/events, but in the case that that is not possible, make the effort to get to know them. Or even if you do have these things with them, it doesn’t hurt to make additional efforts to hang out and get to know each other before the trip. You will have a lot more fun if you are comfortable and friends with those you are going with. That’s cool when you have somebody to discuss reviews of the best site to buy research paper, right?

Be brave enough to face difficulties

Prepare yourself for the trip–including the flights, the potential culture shock, the potential homesickness, and all the opportunities to learn.
Are you going to get anxious on your four hour, seven hour, fifteen hour flight? Do you get sunburnt easily, cold easily? How to write the best research paper in the world? Do mosquito bites drive you crazy? Do you need that many clothes/do you have enough? Do you get motion sick easily? Where to find research paper writer reviews? Do what you have to in order to prepare, talking to your instructors if needed.
And now you’re ready to study abroad. I tried to make this post as comprehensive as possible, but if you have any other questions, go ahead and post them below and I will comment back to you! If you’ve studied abroad and feel that I’ve missed something, feel free to share that, as well. This is by far one of my favorite things to talk about, so I’ve got plenty of resources for you all!
