Hi, my name is Ashley, and welcome to the Introduction to Applying Coaching Models and Techniques to Improve Professional Practice. In this unit opener, we will give a brief overview on the following learning objectives. We'll define the sociocultural learning theory and its relation to peer coaching. We'll review coaching models and techniques. Next, we'll evaluate observation tools and the role of feedback. Then, we'll demonstrate how to apply different coaching models. Lastly, we'll go through the steps on offering effective coaching to teachers. Let's go ahead and get started.
In this unit, we will define the sociocultural learning theory created by Lev Vygotsky and explain how the theory is related to peer coaching. To do this, we will dissect the main features of the theory, as well as the components of peer coaching. Peer coaching is one type of coaching relationship, but as we continue with the unit, we will add one other coaching models that can be used. These lessons will be especially helpful as you develop your coaching relationships with your colleagues.
This unit will review coaching models and techniques that can be used for teachers from pre-K through college. We will review different types of teaching models. Next, we'll determine the type of situation a specific coaching model may be best. Lastly, we'll demonstrate how the coaching model can be implemented. This will be a good chance for you to determine which coaching models may be best for you, or if you are a coach, this may give you the knowledge and skills to decide coaching relationships for the teachers you serve.
In this unit, you will have the opportunity to evaluate observation tools and the role of feedback. Types of observation tools and how to implement them will be discussed. We'll also go over the purpose of providing effective feedback and list some steps that would help you through the process. In these lessons, you will find that as a coach giving feedback may be difficult. But the steps provided here will definitely help you feel confident in that area.
Next, you will learn how to apply different coaching models. After getting the basic information about the different coaching models, you will learn the best situations for using them. This unit will also review various techniques that can be used, such as professional learning communities and critical friends groups. We'll go through scenarios of how each of these are applied.
Lastly, we'll put all that information together and reflect on offering coaching to others. Once you receive the information about various coaching models, you will be able to determine the best type for each teacher. We'll review how establishing trust with teachers and giving them choice allows you to offer effective coaching. Lastly, we'll go through examples where you can see coaching in action. These lessons will provide you with the tools you need to be an effective coach.
Let's recap again the main points of this unit. This unit will focus on giving you information about the sociocultural learning theory and how it is related to peer coaching. We will define coaching models and techniques. We'll take a look at the observation tools that are used during the observation process and the role feedback plays in coaching and with observations. We'll apply different coaching models to different situations and review the overall process of offering coaching support.
So I welcome you to the unit on Applying Coaching Models and Techniques to Improve Professional Practice. You will find these lessons will be super helpful and preparing you to coach or to be coached. Here are some lessons to look forward to. Good luck.
