Introduction to "Applying the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework in instructional design

Hi, my name is Ashley, and welcome to this introduction to applying Universal Design for Learning framework in instructional design and assessment. What will you learn in this unit? This unit will cover many objectives. We will take a look at the principles of the UDL learning model, which is the Universal Design for Learning. We will revise an existing lesson plan in order to meet the principles of UDL and use the UDL links app. Also we will reflect on UDL revised lessons and how they meet the diverse needs of all students.

The Universal Design for Learning model, also known as UDL, consists of three principles. We will review each of the three principles in depth, looking at the guidelines of each principle. In these tutorials, not only will you'll understand the concepts of each principle but you will also learn strategies in order to implement them in your classroom successfully. We will also look at the benefits of the implementation for students. It's important to have a full graphs in the UDL principles so you may incorporate them in your own lessons.

After the in-depth review of the UDL principles, you will use an existing lesson and revise it to meet the UDL expectations. In this unit, we will look at resources such as CAST, UDL Studio and the UDL Links app, that will assist you in revising your lesson. We will browse these resources, so you may see what each resource has to offer, and how it can benefit you and your lesson planning and instruction.

After recreating your lesson and applying UDL principles, we will go through the steps and tools to use to reflect on your newly revised lesson. You will have the option to choose the type of reflection that matches your own thought process. This lesson will help you bring the unit as a whole all altogether, because you will be incorporating UDL principles in their guidelines, as well as the UDL resources to your instruction.

Let's recap the objectives of this unit. In this unit, we will focus on understanding what the Universal Design for Learning is and the principles of the learning model. We will incorporate the UDL principles into existing lessons, and then reflect on our newly revised lessons and how they are better prepared to meet diverse learners.
