Welcome to this introduction of planning personalized instruction that leverages technologies to increase engagement, motivation, and achievement. My name is Ashley Sweat.
What will you learn today? In this unit, we will cover many objectives we. Will take a look at the role of the teacher in the personalized learning model, then analyze gamification theories and the connection to personalization. We were reflect how simulations that motivation, student engagement, and create opportunities for improvement. We will also create a lesson with the use of adaptive technologies.
When we discuss the role of the teacher, we will consider the characteristics of a traditional teacher, as well as define what a facilitator is. We will look at the role of the facilitator, touching on research that supports having a facilitator in the gamified classroom as opposed to a traditional teacher.
Also, to look forward to is an in-depth explanation of the theories behind gamification. We will look at the theories, such as behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, and humanism. These early theories relate to a fairly new concept. You will find it interesting how research from over 50 and 60 years ago is still very relevant today. We will also understand how gamification creates personalized learning for students, allowing them to work at their own pace and have say about their learning activities.
In this unit, we will consider the impacts of simulations. Simulations our interactive, hands on learning modules that provide learning experiences for students. Once added to the classroom, simulations can enhance learning in so many ways. After this lesson, you'll be well-informed on simulations, and how to incorporate them in your classroom.
As you can see, this unit covers a lot of information on the new learning approach gamification. You will find that simulations are a big part of gamification, and that they provide game like learning experiences for students.
And after you have done a lot of listening and taking notes, it will be time for you to create your own lessons. We will go through the steps of creating your own lesson plan and what it should look like in the gamified classroom, using adaptive technologies and some without.
Here's also where you can incorporate the role of a facilitator, unlike that of a traditional teacher, when creating and delivering your lesson. We will show you how to track data and make your own spreadsheets using Google Sheets.
Remember, gamification creates a game like atmosphere for the classroom. So you'll need a database to record students' scores. This too will be a perfect resource also a part of this unit, a lesson has been provided to give you the tools on how to reflect on the lesson you've created, where you will utilize a plus minus delta for your reflective thoughts.
So here's a quick recap on the objectives of this unit. We'll look at the role of the teacher in a personalized learning model and analyze the theories of gamification, and how they are connected with personalizing learning for students. We'll reflect on simulations and how they increase student motivation, engagement, and achievement. Lastly, the steps of creating a lesson will be revealed. And you will have the opportunity to reflect on your lesson by analyzing the needs of your students.
So, now you're ready to begin the unit on planning personalized instruction that leverages technology to increase engagement, motivation, and achievement. Here are some upcoming lessons to look forward to. Good luck!
