Three Kinds of Irony
There are three kinds of irony:
- Verbal irony--a discrepancy between what is said and what is meant
- Situational irony--a discrepancy between what is expected and what actually is
- Dramatic irony--the effect of a reader or viewer understanding or knowing more than one of more characters in a work
