During this course, in addition to working on a scenario-based project, you are asked to create a presentation covering the various topics of database design that we will cover. You will submit two deliverables related to this presentation:
1. Presentation Outline – Due at the end of Unit V
2. Final Presentation – Due at the end of Unit VIII (“Unit VIII PowerPoint Presentation”)
The purpose of this presentation is to reinforce the concepts presented in this course. Database design is a complicated topic, and you will not learn all of the concepts presented just by reading about them. By creating a presentation that teaches the concepts to someone else, you will be able to understand and retain more of the material we cover.
The audience for your presentation is someone who has never been introduced to the topic of database design before. Since your audience members are beginners in this area, it is important for you to explain the concepts in your own words and provide analogies and examples for better understanding. You should assume that the students viewing your presentation have access to the textbook, but still do not understand the concepts. Therefore, your explanations and examples should be different than those presented in the textbook.
You will submit an outline for your presentation at the end of Unit V and the final version of the presentation by the end of Unit VIII. See below for specific deliverable guidelines.
The guidelines for both deliverables are presented here so that you have a better overview of the assignment as a whole.
Your outline should be created in a Word document. The topics you will cover are those presented in Units I-V. Your final presentation will contain 10 or more slides in PowerPoint. Each slide in your presentation should be represented in your outline, so be sure your outline provides plenty of detail. You may add detail to the presentation as needed when you are creating it, but for the most part the contents of the outline should match your final presentation. Keep your audience in mind as you make decisions about what material to present and how to present it. Your outline should also include a list of sources that you intend to use for this project. It is recommended that you use at least three sources, in addition to your textbook. Be sure to note on your outline where you plan to include diagrams, examples, charts, or other graphics
Your final presentation will be a PowerPoint slide show with at least 10 content slides, as well as any necessary slides to introduce the topic and list your references. Your presentation may be twice as long as the minimum. Be sure to keep your goal and audience in mind when deciding on the level of detail for this assignment. Your presentation should follow best practices and the standard guidelines for creating an effective presentation. There are many sources available on the Internet to help you with this if necessary. You should also include appropriate graphics and diagrams to explain the concepts. Your presentation should also be professional, so be sure to choose an appropriate theme and to be consistent with wording and tone throughout. You may also include sound in your presentation in the form of narration explaining the concepts of each slide. This narration would be similar to what you might say if you were making a presentation to a live audience
