Lewis Dot Diagrams 2: Simple Molecules

Author: Katie Smith

Lewis Dot Diagrams

By now, you should be able to create a Lewis Dot diagram for a single representative element.  If not, refer back to the packet Lewis Dot Diagrams 1: Elements for more information.  In this packet, we'll expand on that to create Lewis Dot structures for simple molecules (ones containing only single bonds).  We will also review how to identify bonding pairs and lone pairs of electrons.

Drawing Lewis Dot Structures

This video will review how to draw a Lewis Dot structure for a simple molecule containing only single bonds.

Practice Problems

The Next Step

Once you've mastered writing Lewis Dot structures for the molecules shown in this packet, you're ready to move on to more complex molecules.  Have a look at the packet Lewis Dot Diagrams 3:  Complex Molecules to see what comes next.
