Description:

1. At the end of the unit, students will be able to explain the difference between metaphors and similes.

2.  At the end of the unit, students will recognize metaphors and similes in writing as well as songs.

3.  At the end of the unit, students will be able to explain how the author's use of metaphors and similes creates visual images which enhance the message.

Fourth grade students will be exposed to a variety of written texts as well as audio recordings which contain metaphors and similes. Students will distinguish between metaphors and similes, recognize metaphors and similes when they see of hear them, and explain how the use of metaphors and similes enhances the text.
