1.  Perform basic mathematical operations with functions.

2.  Identify the domain of calculated functions.

3.  Graphically represent calculated functions.

4.  Create and evaluate the equation of a composition of functions.

 

In the previous unit, we spent time working with operations of polynomials.  In the same way that we can add, subtract, multiply and divide polynomials, we can also perform these operations with functions.  When we did this work with polynomials however, we were working with expressions, and the resulting expression was sometimes a polynomial and other times the ratio of two polynomials.  When we combine functions, as we will see in this unit, we will end up with a new function related to the original functions.
