place value-the value of where a digit is in a number
     **4th grade expectation-->ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions

base-ten numeral-another name for the decimal number system that we use every day ("the regular way to write a number"); sometimes called standard form  (Example: 8,384)
