Mosses

Mosses are a type of plant that are lacking a vascular system. To survive mosses live in moist environments where they can directly absorb water from their surrounding. Spores are released in the germination process of moss. There are two different generations of moss. The moss you are probably most familiar with is called the gametophyte generation. The other generation is called the sporophyte generation. The sporophyte generation will grow out of the gametophyte generation as a small thin stalk and contains pores in a capsule at the end of the stalk. Mosses are used in gardening and agriculture. Moss also can form peat which is used as fuel in some cases.
