Prime and Composite

Key Vocabulary

prime number-a whole number that can be divided evenly by only 1 and itself; only has 2 factors (1 and itself); only has one factor pair (1, itself) (Example: 7 is a PRIME number because it only has the factors of 1 and 7)

composite number-a whole number that can be divided evenly by numbers other than 1 and itself; has more than 2 factors; has more than one factor pair (Example: 21 is a COMPOSITE number because it has the factors of 1, 21, 3, and 7)

**0 and 1 are neither prime nor composite
