Reflection on adaptive learning

Hi, my name is Ashley. And today's lesson is titled reflection on adaptive learning. In today's lesson, we will learn how to reflect on adaptive learning through the use of Marzano's domain one.

Robert Marzano is currently one of the leading educational researchers. He developed the four Marzano's teaching evaluation domains. Today we're going to look at domain one-- classroom strategies and behaviors.

Domain one address is what teachers do in the classroom, actions that have a direct effect on student achievement. Today we're going to look at some questions so that you may evaluate adaptive learning, and see how it can best be used in your classroom teaching.

While we consider Marzano's teacher evaluation model, going to reflect on what you learned about adaptive learning, and how it can be applied to your own teaching. Let's look at these four guiding questions from Marzano's domain one.

What will I do to establish and communicate learning goals, track student progress, and celebrate success? Think about what we have previously discussed about adaptive learning. Students are able to be involved with adaptive learning technologies at their own pace and receive personalized instruction.

So while students are receiving this instruction that is based on their needs, how will you establish and communicate those learning goals? Maybe meeting with students before they begin their adaptive learning task, and explaining to them the purpose of what they're doing and their objectives beforehand. And then that can give them a sense of responsibility about, OK, this is what we're about to do right now, and this is what I need to know as a result of these lessons that I will be involved with on my own.

How will you track their progress? You might even choose an adaptive learning program that tracks the progress for you. And you can go on your teacher's edition and check to see how each student is doing. And then you might even include that on your own graph or a class graph to show the students progress. And you may even decide to use the data that's being tracked by the adaptive learning program to celebrate student success.

What will I do to help students effectively interact with new knowledge? After students have received new knowledge from the adaptive learning activities, what other activities will you plan to have students continue working with new information? Will you implement project-based learning or problem-based learning so that they may use the new information that they have gained in a problem situation? That's something to consider.

What will I do to help students practice and deepen their understanding of new knowledge? In one of the lessons, we talked about that the adaptive learning does not take care of all of the teaching. The teacher still must provide either supplemental activities or enrichment activities to help students to continue to practice and deepen their understanding, as well as give students an extra boost. So remember that, as a teacher, you still have to know your students and plan accordingly.

And lastly, what will I do to engage students? Here's where you can implement project-based learning and problem-based activities. Also, cooperative grouping and hands-on activities will engage your students.

But this is also a question for you to think about, with you knowing your students. This is something that you have to reflect on and decide, what would be the best way for you to engage your students?

So in today's lesson, we took a look at Marzano's domain one on Robert Marzano's website for the teacher evaluation model. And we also talked about four questions that you can ask yourself as you reflect on adaptive learning, and how you can apply it to your teaching. These guiding questions were taken directly from Robert Marzano's teacher evaluation model.

Use the questions discussed in today's lesson to decide the best way to implement adaptive learning in your classroom.
