            Leadership is a broad term that can be interpreted in many different ways.  It is the overall ability of a person to inspire a desired change within other’s behaviors to accomplish a common or overarching goal. It has been argued that leadership is a combination of desirable traits that one possesses or are born with such as trust, compassion, curiosity and integrity (Low, 2010); still others believe leadership is not solely reliant upon the traits a person possesses but instead is a learned and cultivated state of mind. A strategic leader must establish strong ethical values in order to effectively lead within an organization in realizing its vision.  A leader, according to Scott (2008), is anyone regardless of position or power whose moral bearings, relational skills, breadth of awareness, and decision-making practices are admired and emulated by others.  This broad explanation gives a good foundational support for the definition of leadership. 
Leadership Through Humility
            Successful and effective leaders are humble leaders.  The ability to be humble and remove oneself out of the spot light is an important trait that is found within effective leaders.  In order to be a humble leader, one must ensure the overall good of the organization and their subordinates comes first and foremost. Leaders can demonstrate humility through the modest estimation of their own importance to a goal or organization.  This humility enables leaders to achieve organizational objectives by focusing on the interests of others rather than self-interests (Ramthun, 2012). By removing their own self-importance, humble leaders are able to lead more effectively and cultivate a loyal following that are empowered and inspired to achieve the organization’s goal.
Importance of Servant Leadership
            Although Robert Greenleaf is credited for the concept of servant leadership, the practice has been around for thousands of years. Greenleaf’s model reinforces the thought process that a leader is servant first and that by leading through servitude, one evokes trust and loyalty of followers. Servant leaders not only accept but also promote leadership concepts.  These concepts include listening and creating an open atmosphere safe for sharing, empowering employees to make good decisions, and organizational stewardship and alignment with organizational goals, to set the conditions for effective leadership within their organizations (Ramthun, 2012). Importance of Relying on Jesus’ Will
Jesus is the most notable example of a servant leader within history. Jesus led through his servitude to others.  He empowered his disciples to not only learn the way of God, but to teach that knowledge to others.  In Matthew 6:33 (KJV) we are told “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God”, this is an important step in servant leadership as it promotes the emulation of Christ, who set the example of perfect servant leadership. As a servant leader, the goal is to set aside the wants and need of the individual and instead promote the wants and needs of others.  This is the epitome of the Christian way. However, the most important is to ensure the wants and desires of God are the forefront of what the leader promotes. Once the concept of biblical servant leadership has been established, both the Christian worldview and Greenleaf are in agreement that the servant leader is in fact the best form of leader, because he or she seeks something that is outside of him or herself.
